Aegis Anti-Air Warfare Tactical Decision Aids
نویسندگان
چکیده
PL has been developing shipboard tactical decision aids since 1986 to address the needs of the Aegis warfighter. These efforts have applied a legacy of anti-air warfare experience since the 1970s through radar simulation, propagation analysis, environmental assessment, field testing, and U.S. Navy exercise support. The Laboratory has delivered several capabilities to the operational Navy. Central to these successes was the development, starting in 1993, of a prototype system known as SEAWASP for defining requirements and demonstrating capabilities. Lessons learned from the prototype allowed deployment of a limited-capability rapid technology-insertion effort across the Aegis Fleet. In parallel, SEAWASP development continued, culminating in long-term installations of SEAWASP operational prototypes on USS Anzio and USS Cape St. George, through four deployments from 1996 to 2001. Currently, SEAWASP’s Environmental Assessment System is being transitioned to production as a major component of SMOOS(R)—the Navy’s Shipboard Meteorological and Oceanographic Observation System (Replacement)—and the Moriah sensor system to support N096 requirements.

The Networked Underwater Warfare Technology Demonstration Project (NUW TDP) is a Defence R&D Canada activity that will spend approximately $6.2M over four years to investigate, via simulation and real-time demonstration, future capabilities for the Canadian Navy and Maritime Air to carry out integrated, singleand multi-platform UnderWater Warfare (UWW) in national operations and coalition opera...
متن کاملExpeditionary Decision Support System (EDSS) and its application to Information Superiority/Information Operations
The ability to execute true distributed and collaborative planning for amphibious operations, including ship-to-objective maneuver, selected intelligence and meteorological functions, and plan rehearsal is critical in the fast moving littoral/expeditionary warfare area. As part of an ongoing series of newly developed Tactical Decision Aids (TDA) for the Global Command and Control System – Marit...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Fluent Skills in a Complex, Dynamic Problem-Solving Task
We examined critical characteristics of fluent cognitive skills, using the Georgia Tech Aegis Simulation Program, a tactical decision-making computer game that simulates tasks of an anti-air-warfare coordinator. To characterize learning, we adopted the unit-task analysis framework, in which a task is decomposed into several unit tasks that are further decomposed into functional-level subtasks. ...

A research program investigating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to aid in the development of a Tactical Decision Generator (TDG) for Within Visual Range (WVR) air combat engagements is discussed. The application of AI programming and problem solving methods in the development and implementation of a concurrent version of the Computerized Logic For Air-to-Air Warfare Simulati...
متن کاملDynamically coupled 3D visualization and real-time simulation as an aid to developing mental models of sonar
Training sonar operators for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) in complex environments is challenging. Performance deficiencies are the product of errors in both analysis and employment. Experts use mental models to interpret displays and reason about the underlying scenario in order to perform analysis under uncertain conditions and achieve more optimal tactical-system employment. To accelerate the...
